FIG President meets FIG Members from the Russian Federation

The International Federation of Surveyors has six members from within the Russian Federation, in all four membership categories. The Federal Agency for Geodesy and Cartography (ROSREESTR) and the Non-Commercial Partnership of Cadastral Engineers are Member Associations, Moscow University of Geodesy and Cartography and the State University of Land Use Planning are Academic Members, the Siberian State Academy of Geodesy is an Affiliate Member and Meridian+, a Corporate Member. Together, they invited President CheeHai TEO to Moscow and to interact with FIG’s members from the Russian Federation.

During the visit, FIG President made presentations to one audience at the State University of Land Use Planning, the role, focus and work plan of the International Federation of Surveyors under the current Council and to a second audience at the Moscow University of Geodesy and Cartography on the topic, Spatially Enabled Society. The FIG President was also informed and briefed on the current emphasis and challenges of FIG’s Members in Russia through presentations from V. Kislov, President of Non-Commercial Partnership of Cadastral Engineers, Sergei Nicholaevich Volkov, the President-Rector of the State University of Land Use Planning and Andrey A. Mayorov, the Rector of the Moscow University of Geodesy and Cartography and A. Karpik, Rector of the Siberian State Academy of Geodesy. Vasily V Shlapak, Dean of the Geodesy Faculty at the Moscow University of Geodesy and Cartography spoke fondly of his various past engagements and activities with FIG and Vice Dean Irina Fartukova, FIG Commission 2 Vice-Chair, spoke and outlined the preparation for FIG’s Commission 2 workshop in Moscow this September, the first FIG Commission level event in Moscow.

The Academic Members from the Russian Federation expressed their desire to work with FIG Commission 2 and consider the possibility of developing a framework for the accreditation of surveying programs.

The FIG President also visited the sole Corporate Member from Russia, Meridian+, and was briefed on its activities by Alexander Golovikhin, the Director General as well as his fellow director Yuriy Bugaevskiy.
